ROCHESTER & SOUTHERN

The Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh RR was a profitable coal hauling regional railroad that was bought by the B&O in 1932. In the 1980's the Chessie System began selling off surplus lines and in July 1986 the Rochester branch became the Rochester & Southern RR owned by Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. (and which connected with it's Genesee & Wyoming RR at P&L Junction). In July 1988 the GWI would purchase the rest of the old BR&P which would be run as the Buffalo & Pittsburgh RR. In the late 1990's, the middle portion of the R&S was taken out of service, and traffic out of Rochester is now handed off to the CP/D&H at Silver Springs and hauled to Buffalo, where it is turned back over to the B&P for the trip south.

The train continues through downtown Corry, PA and passes the New York & Lake Erie FPA-4's laying over here on the old Erie mainline. The Erie line from Meadville, PA to Hornell, NY is now run by the Western NY & PA, a unit of the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville.

The train passes the depot in Corry, PA. In 1992 GWI bought out the Allegheny RR, and renamed it the Allegheny & Eastern. As it connects with the B&P in Johnsonburg, PA, the R&S GP40's can also be found here now.
