NORFOLK SOUTHERN

Today's Norfolk Southern (the name was previously used by a regional road running from Norfolk, VA to Charlotte, NC and is a component of today's NS), was a result of the 1982 merger of two sucessful lines, the Southern Railway and the Norfolk & Western. With the 1999 breakup of Conrail the NS acquired much of the old Pennsy including the mainline across central PA and Horseshoe Curve and the old E-L Southern Tier line from Buffalo to New Jersey.
